Guest from The US Mr. B was in Dhaka for work and hired me to show him around Dhaka City on a free weekday. His work takes him all over the world and allows him to do birding there, his world list is very nice with over 3000 Bird Species. Date was: October 26th, 2025.
I picked him up from his Hotel at 5:30AM, went to New Vision Eco City first to pick the most amount of birds there. This is property of a Land Project but they’re currently using it for Fishery Projects & Agricultural Patches. Still there are lots of good vegetation and tall grasses so there are lots of Good Waterbirds & Grassland Birds available here. You can easily see 50+ species here in 2 hours. We arrived there just around sunrise and entered from left side. We found few active Red-vented Bulbuls & Common Ioras at first. Lots of Baya Weavers were chattering from inside a tall grass bush but not much visible. There were few Scaly-breasted Munias there also. We went a little off trail to check out a small pond and suddenly got greeted by a very lovely bird, a Common Rosefinch female. It flew up from ground and sat on top of a tall grass and was calling. We observed it for about 2 minutes and then it took off, we noticed another one joining it so atleast two were there. We also saw a nice singing Striated Grassbird there. We kept on and saw a flushed view of a Black Bittern and sadly it sat where we couldn’t go closer to get better views. We got great views of several Yellow-footed Green Pigeons, pair of Coppersmith Barbets & a Lineated Barbet. Few Dusky Warblers showed up and a wet Thick-billed Warbler. Clamorous Reed Warblers still would not show themselves and kept chattering from inside, one Streak-throated Woodpecker gave prolonged nice views. Other highlights of the morning were atleast three Pied Kingfishers & a flock of Lesser Whistling ducks. We picked up 54 species from this Location, a very good start in the morning.
We had our late breakfast near National Botanical Gardens with Tandoor Bread, Veggi+lentils & a very lovely chicken glassy. Mr. B. said that it was a very good meal and also went on to say that he was having a hard time walking because of being too full.
at New Vision Eco City
We entered the Botanical Garden a little late and went to the Bamboo grove straight. On the way we got great views at Black-rumped Flamebacks & Rufous Woodpeckers. There were several other Local birders there looking for a Blue-capped Rock Thrush that was sighted there the previous day. Sadly this bird was not seen there that day but we found a nice Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo and few Grey-headed Canary Flycatchers. We kept on exploring, saw the Roosting Indian Flying foxes, Two Types of Squirrels, One Small Asian Mongoose and a Lesser Bandicoot Rat which gave great views. We saw three Purple Swamphens and Taiga Flycatchers. We rested for a bit because it was very hot outside, had Ice Cream. We ended this session with an Spotted owlet in nesting hole.
We went on towards Purbachal Lapwing Spot next. The Sun was scorching hot that afternoon so we waited a bit there before going out. Mr. B. was almost getting sunburnt. We found the Lapwings easily and counted total 10 of them including few juveniles. There were few Red-wattled lapwings there aswell along with Bronze-winged Jacanas with chicks. We saw few Bengal Bushlarks and one was singing, gave great views. There were few Paddyfiled Pipits there along with Richards Pipits also. We heard a blyth’s pipit there also. Several Yellow-footed Green Pigeons and Mynas were feeding on a Banyan Tree and gave very nice views. We saw at least 07 Pin-tailed Snipes which flushed right from a puddle in front of us, we got great views and none had the White trailing edge on secondaries that Common Snipes have. We also found one flying Grey-headed lapwing & few Siberian Stonechats. Sun was still super hot so we decided to call it a day. We came to Gulshan & ate lunch at a famous place there. menu was Mutton Kacchi Biryani which Mr. B. loved and for dessert there was Falooda.
We dropped him off at his Hotel right around sunset and he said goodbye with several new World Lifers.

I arranged a 1-day tour around Dhaka with Zaber during a work trip, visiting several sites in the area. We had a splendid day, seeing many South and South-east Asian goodies. Zaber is very knowledgeable about the local birds and their habit, and is excellent with all of the calls. A true expert. It was a lovely day with good company and I highly recommend a tour with him.
