Sundarban is the Largest Mangrove Forest in Bangladesh which is home to many sought after birds like the Critically Endangered Masked Finfoot, the super elusive White-eared Night Heron (chim vạc hoa) and many more. The Forest Floor is full of pointy breathing pores and submerged by high tide twice every day. Thus very unsuitable for birding on foot. We arrange Houseboat based Birding Trips inside Sundarban where guests stay nights on A/C or Non A/C houseboats in cozy & comfortable cabins and do birding inside narrow canals onboard smaller country boats. This way Birding for longer hours is quite comfortable and the forest can be explored nicely.

Target Species for Sundarban Masked Finfoot Trip
Birding Trips inside Sundarban targeting the Masked Finfoot are specialized tailormade trips for generally 04 to 06 days. Guests are recieved from Dhaka Airport and Moved to Khulna City where the AC Houseboat starts from. Masked Finfoot Zone in Sundarban is about 6hr cruise from there. Guests are checked in their Cabins and the Boat starts cruising downstream towards Sundarban. There is a smaller country boat that is tagged along the Houseboat for canal cruising. Most part of the cruising will be done on the houseboat which is a lovely platform for bird and wildlife watching already, the narrower canals and shallower waters will be explored on the Country Boat. Tour Leader and Birding Guide, Expert Ship Crew, Chef & Forest Department’s Gunman will accompany the Guests during the entirety of the Trip. The Houseboat is equipped with Single & Shared Cabins for guests, there are Private and Shared Western Style Toilets, Own Water Reservoir, Dining Space and Open Deck for 360 Degree watching.

04 Day 05 Nights Dhaka to Sundarban to Dhaka Trip Itinerary
Guests arrive at Dhaka by Air in the evening and Promptly received by Tour Guide and Trip starts. About 5 Hour Road Trip to Khulna or Mongla by Private Transport and Check in on the waiting Houseboat. Cruising starts right away. We pick up the armed Forest Guard on the way and tag along a smaller country boat for canal cruise.
Day 01: Looking for Masked Finfoot
From early morning to dusk, guests will look for the Prime Target, Masked Finfoot inside Sundarban on board the Country Boat. They will only return to the Houseboat for Meals & Refreshments.
Night: Looking for the White-eared Night Heron, Buffy Fish Owl, Brown Wood-owl etc.
During Low Tide, guests equipped with flashlights will look for the Elusive White-eared Night Heron which loves to forage at night during low tide. Other possibilities are Foraging Buffy Fish Owl, sometimes Brown Wood-owl etc. Other wildlife will also be seen.
Day 02-04: Looking for Masked Finfoot, Mangrove Whistler, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Raptors, Storks
Next few Days will be mostly the same. Many types of Kingfishers will be seen as well as storks & waterbirds. There will be sessions where guests are taken to Boardwalk trails inside the forest for a closer look to woodland birds that are harder to photograph from the country boat. Including the Mangrove Whistler, Streak-breasted Woodpeckers etc. If time allows, we’ll go see an Ancient Temple inside forest which is a lovely birding destination aswell as a heritage site.
Trip ends at Khulna or Mongla: Transfer back to Dhaka
The Houseboat will drop the guests at Khulna or Mongla on last day and they will return to Dhaka by Private Transport for their next destination.

Everything mentioned above, private transport from Dhaka to Sundarban to Dhaka. Full meals three times everyday and snacks few times a day. All fees and forest revenue inside Sundarban including $40 Per Day Per Foreigner. And an experienced Tour Leader & Bird Guide for the whole trip.
